Spitting Image: Yours Cruelly

10 years ago, I had the honor of meeting my lifelong idol, Elvira. Not only did I get to finally meet her face to face, but I also gave her a portrait I had drawn of her in pencil and charcoal that I called Sinderella. Some of you may recall this story and some of you may even own prints or shirts with the art piece on it.

I even got to tell her how I dressed up like her for Halloween when I was little and she got a kick out of seeing this photo of me………

Then in 2012 I had the honor of meeting her again and taking a promo photo with her for Final Girl (the sister company of Horror Hound that I was actively working with). I still wish I would’ve thought to take the lipstick out of my pocket before we took this photo. But let’s face it. No one is looking at you when you’re in an Elvira sandwich and I actually got to show her my Elvira tattoo. I hadn’t started my “Pretty Scary” sleeve the first time I met her so that was pretty memorable.ldgnelvirajoy1

cassandra-peterson-2.61Ever since then she has been back on my art bucket list. I know I am obsessed but it’s a healthy obsession that I am proud of. The one thing I knew was that I wanted to draw Elvira again but I also wanted to draw her as Cassandra too. She is so beautiful in character and out of character that I decided to do a split face portrait to showcase that. I went back and forth contemplating if I should add touches of color here and there to the Elvira side but decided not to. I think the piece speaks for itself without the need for it. I call this new Spitting Image Portrait, “Yours Cruelly”……..

My art skills have changed so much in 10 years that I hope to run into her again one day and give her this new piece. For the rest of you horror host lovers, this piece is available as prints and t-shirts in both my Etsy and Amazon shops!

Spitting Image: Pretty Bitchin’

Eleven Stranger Things Season 1I have been wanting to do a portrait of Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven ever since the 1st season of Stranger Things came out. I was completely in awe of her character as well as her mad acting skills. Not to mention who wouldn’t want to draw that beautiful face of hers.

I wasn’t sure how I wanted to do it but I knew I didn’t want to just replicate a still from the show. I wanted my piece to be unique among all the ones I have seen others do so I waited for that creative spark to hit me. Well while binge watching Season 2 my mine went zap! I knew I wanted to do a split face portrait and I wanted to showcase
Eleven’s fun makeovers from both seasons. Her “pretty” makeover from Season 1 and her “bitchin'” makeover from Season 2.

I am excited to announce that I finally finished it between other projects and filling holiday orders. I call this piece “Pretty Bitchin'” which I get a kick out of every time I say it…………

My next piece is no exception. When I heard that Lisa Marie Smith was added as a guest for an upcoming con we will be attending, I knew it was time to finally finish the portrait I had been wanting to do of her.

Although Lisa was a world–renowned model, I first heard of her when she was married to Tim Burton and starring in his movies. I never stopped admiring her work even after their split. I have always found her to be beautiful but I also find her rather fascinating. I think it’s incredible the way she can bring life to a character with very little dialogue. A silent movie actress of our time. That is why I chose to call this split face portrait “Siren”….

Half of the portrait is of Lisa as the Lady Martian in Mars Attacks because its one of my all time favorite movies. The other half is a representation of herself and a little bit of Lady Crane in Sleepy Hollow.

Prints and t-shirts are available in both my Etsy and Amazon shops! You can also see more of my portrait work on the Spitting Image page of my website.

Spitting Image: Wind Blows… Fire Burns… Water Falls

I remember the first time I saw Milla Jovovich. It was the early 90’s and I was watching Dazed and Confused. She played Pickford’s girlfriend… the quiet, artsy hippie chic who made the awesome Kiss props seen through out the film. michelleI also always thought it was interesting how she didn’t even need a speaking role and yet her character was so memorable she made the cover of the VHS and left an impression in our minds. It wasn’t long after that I had learned she had been model since she was a little girl. Go figure right? I mean.. why wouldn’t someone who looked like THAT not be a model!

tumblr_o2xe1gwjbi1u8n0xao1_500It was only a few years later that I got to see another side of her acting skills that would leave me in awe. The movie The Fifth Element came out and even though her speaking role was pretty much in a language all it’s own.. I still loved everything about it and her role as LeeLoo. She then eventually went on to be zombie ass kicking Alice in Resident Evil. A role I can now not imagine anyone else playing.

For many years now I have wanted to draw Milla as LeeLoo. There was just something about that character I loved most over all the others she has portrayed. The wait is now over and another portrait has been checked off my bucket list.

I call this one “Wind Blows… Fire Burns…Water Falls”

It was done in pencil, Prisma colored pencils and a touch of charcoal. If you are a SciFi, Milla or LeeLoo fan you can own a print of this piece! They are now available in my Etsy Shop.
