Let’s Hear It For The Ghouls!

0

As the 9th annual Women in Horror Month comes to a close, I would just like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the ghouls who have inspired my work.

wihm9thankyou

To all of you that I have had the opportunity to meet and give my work to, thank you for being so grateful and for making every experience with you a memorable one. As we all know the horror genre may be the most hardcore genre but it’s filled with the nicest and most kick-ass people you will ever meet.

Spitting Image: I Bind You Nancy

1

I fell in love with Fairuza Balk in high school when I first saw the movie The Craft. Her portrayal of Nancy Downs is truly the reason I continue to love that movie even now in my 30’s. Watching Nancy on the screen I always wanted to be her friend and hang out with her despite the consequences. So in other words the moral of the movie went right out the window for me ha ha ha. I also would’ve loved to go shopping with her so I could own every piece of her wardrobe (well….besides the “I’m Flying” hospital gown and arm and leg restraints ha ha).

I have always been drawn (no pun intended) to Fairuza because she isn’t like all the other actresses out there. First off her name is incredibly cool, she is a unique beauty (my god..those eyes!) and she tends to always get the edgier roles that I like. On top of being a very talented actress she is also a musician and an artist as well!

Fairuza has been on my art bucket list for as long as I can remember. But I can finally cross her off now. I just finished a new split face portrait inspired by Fairuza as Nancy.

I present to you ” I Bind You Nancy”……….

It was done in pencil and charcoals. The right side is the witchy goth every day Nancy and the left side is the crazy ward “I’m flying” Nancy. I hope one day Fairuza decides to grace us fans with her presence here in Chicago. If she does I plan to give her the original. But for my fellow fans of Fairuza, Nancy and/or The Craft I have both prints and tshirts available in my Etsy shop!

Spitting Image: Memorial Portrait – Possum

5

1961586_217896621733096_1825452114_nTom (a past customer of mine) contacted me recently asking if I can do another portrait for him. I had drawn a memorial portrait of his niece, Audra 4 years ago and he said he immediately thought of me when he decided to have a 2nd memorial portrait done. This time it would be of his pet wolf named Possum. I was honored he came back to have me do yet another meaningful piece and after seeing photographs of his unique and captivating pet, I became instantly excited to work on it. After finishing the portrait the other night I emailed Tom the first draft. I couldn’t be happier when I saw his response in my inbox. It said….”I LOVE IT!”

Last night I put a protective spray on the portrait and tonight I am getting it ready to ship out. I can’t wait to hear what Tom thinks of it when he sees it in person.

Memorial portraits are a wonderful way to pay tribute and keep the memory alive of someone we love. I hope that this portrait of Possum brings some peace to Tom during this time and he can look at it and think back of all the wonderful times he spent with his beloved pet.

To see more of the portraits I have done check them out here at the Spitting Image section of my portfolio site!
