Skinned: Transformed Myself Into A Creepy Killer Doll

4

So over the weekend we helped my brother set up for Trick or Treaters on Halloween. This included using our hearse parked in his driveway for added effect and my husband chasing kids with a chainsaw ha ha. His yard looked amazing before we got there and then with our added props and the hearse it was awesome.

I have always wanted to attempt a creepy killer doll makeup and costume for Halloween. So I went for it this year. Everything I already had at home except the dress and white eyeliner. So it was not only fun but affordable. he greatest thing is that after I was done doing my makeup I sent my photo to no one recognized me. Even my brother and my Dad asked who it was ha ha! One group of kids was afraid to come up to the porch and get candy from me. Mission accomplished! The funny thing is I am so pale I didn’t have to use a ton of white makeup to lighten the base of my face ha ha. It did work wonders for highlighting though. I guess that is why I get compared to a porcelain doll all the time ha ha. I was really happy with the way it came out and the reactions I received. I think I look like Annabelle’s cuter younger sister ha ha.

Here are the photos that I shared with them via text and on instagram….

I captioned the first one “hot date with Jigsaw tonight, eat your heart out Chucky!” and the 2nd one “what happens when you tell a girl too many times that she looks like a porcelain doll”

And here are a few my husband took of me in my brothers yard and in front of our Frankenhearse for fun….

And it being a tradition my brother took a a photo of Frank and I under the wedding arch we got married under 6 years ago (for those new to my art blog, our wedding anniversary is also on Halloween). We donated the arch to my brother’s Halloween decor stash a few years ago and every time he sets it up we try to make it a point to take a photo under it for fun!

Raven!

So I have decided to start a new category of sorts for my blog posts. As you all know from following my posts that the subject lines of my posts usually start with a category that coincides with my website. For instance if I post a new portrait I will start the subject with “Spitting Image”. If I post about using my art to give back I will start with “Back Bone”. Well there is a new category to the coffin and it does not quite coincide with my website categories so I wanted to introduce and explain it to everyone.

I was inspired by 2 things.

1.) Everyone always coming to me asking me where I get things, how I do this to my hair, how do I do this to my makeup, etc.
2.) I am a review-aholic. Meaning 2 things. I read a lot of reviews before I buy. I give back online by contributing reviews. This mainly is on Amazon for the time being and I just recently started a Makeup Alley account. I also enjoy blog and vlog reviews.

So I got to thinking why not help my Freaky Fanatics out. First off I am all about supporting ways to express yourself, saving money and finding good products that work! With people constantly coming to me asking me where I get things I thought maybe this might be a good fit for me to add to my blog here. Sort of something similar to the Artist Shout Out posts I already do from time to time.

So from now on if you see a post that starts with Raven then it will be a post from me about a product I fell in love with! Raven because it fits into my fun dark categories with a second meaning like the rest of them. Raven as in the black bird associated with lost souls and raving about how much I love something. So that also means no negative reviews will be posted on my page. I want to keep my site positive and inspiring like it has always been.I will keep my negative feedback to Amazon ha ha.

Some may ask me how does this have to do with art? Well it actually has a lot to do with it. One as you all know from my Skinned posts that I love makeup and find it to be a tool that can be used to create and express oneself. For me this also goes for other things like clothes, hair dye, jewelry and tattoos. I enjoy being different and whatever tools that I find that make me happy to be who I am are good tools in my book!

So stay tuned Freaky Fanatics! I will be posting my first Raven post soon about my skin care routine that is super affordable!

If anyone has a product that they would like me to try and possibly be featured on my blog please contact me via my website for more information. If the product is good and up my alley it will get featured. If I am not happy with the product I will contact you directly with my issues about the product instead.

Last night my husband Frank and I attended a Halloween party. I used my makeup skills and transformed myself into Marceline the Vampire Queen and Frank was my Finn. We won best couples costume! Here are some photos from last night of our costumes and my makeup (and yes that is Hambo in my pocket)!

Skinned: Living Dead Girl Nicole transforms into the Black Dahlia

4

Well alot of you always wonder what I am going to be for Halloween. I usually don’t announce on my website what it is I have up my sleeve until after I do it and have the photos to share. Well I have some! That’s right I dressed up last night for the Halloween Costume Party and Rock Show that Axe Man’s Bridge (my husband’s band) was performing at. I got quite the compliments on my makeup job and let’s just say I had to drink out of a straw all night and try my hardest not to laugh or talk too much ha ha.

I present to you.. Living Dead Girl Nicole as.. AKA Black Dahlia AKA Elizabeth Short….

Some of you probably are not surprised by my costume choice as I have always been quite intrigued by the case of the Black Dahlia. I even finished one of the many books I have read on the case while recovering in the hospital doped up on morphine ha ha.  I have always sympathized with Elizabeth and all that she went through but I must say using her corpse photos and trying to replicate her wounds on my face made me feel for her even more. The more gorier you have to make the makeup the more you realize what caused the wounds you are replicating. How hardcore and painful they must have been.  I must say this is by far my favorite makeup job I have done on myself. I have decided to enter my costume in the official Alice Cooper Halloween Costume Contest. Fingers crossed! If I win I can finally get a chance to meet Alice and if I did would be incredibly honored to give him a piece of my artwork as a thank you for the opportunity.
