Spitting Image: It’s Gonna Be That Kind Of Mornin’

Been working hard at checking another drawing off my art bucket list. Being a kid in the 80s sure had its advantages. Everything was a lot more original back then and people were not offended over every stupid little thing. This made things a lot more adventurous and fun. Wacky, nutty and cuckoo! Just the way I still like it!

It will come as no surprise to the people who already know of my Pee Wee Herman obsession why I chose this subject matter that I did. To me, Paul Reubens created an iconic character with Pee Wee. From his stand up comedy, the unforgettable movies and of course the show Pee Wee’s Playhouse. Which might I add also contributed to my well-known puppet obsession. I mean the playhouse was in Puppetland! Can it get any better than that?

Well…. actually it does! Did you know he went to improv comedy school with my idol Elvira (Cassandra Peterson). And did you know Rob Zombie was a Production Assistant on Pee Wee’s Playhouse when he first moved to L.A.? Let’s not forget that Cowboy Curtis ended up in the Matrix, Miss Yvonne ended up mothering Charlie Kelly and Opal now rocks that famous orange jumpsuit on Netflix. These are the types of things that put everything you loved as a child and everything you love as an adult into full perspective. Ha Ha!

So, of course, Pee Wee, in general, has been on my art bucket list and I have seen so many art pieces done of him from his movies that I decided to focus mine on the show and I had a blast drawing it. Especially because I tend to watch and listen to whatever inspires the piece while I am creating it. So here it is.

Its Gonna Be That Kind Of Mornin' Logo ResizedI call this one “It’s Gonna Be That Kind Of Mornin'” A line from the theme song (done by Cyndi Lauper under a stage name) I felt it fits the vibe of the drawing and the inspiration behind it. Pee Wee’s Playhouse was one of my Saturday morning escapes as a kid. It might not be on Saturday mornings anymore, but I still watch the show as an adult and it never gets old to me. I could be having the worst day of adulting and then come home and watch the show and it lifts my spirits back up. Judge me if you will but it works for me and I dig it. I mean how can you not enjoy screaming real loud when you hear the word of the day?

So if you are just as big of a fan of Pee Wee as I am or you just love 80s nostalgia, you can get prints and t-shirts of this piece in my Amazon shop! And don’t forget to check out more of my portrait work on the Spitting Image page of my portfolio website.

Spitting Image: #SELFIE

3

Every once in a blue moon I watch a horror or fantasy movie and something just clicks with me artistically. I don’t want to just add the idea to my art bucket list but I want to pick up the pencil and bring my vision to life right away. This was one of those exceptions.

Terrifier Art The Clown Selfie

When it was announced that Damien Leone’s Terrifier was added to Netflix in September I didn’t waste a minute to add it to my queue. I had seen pictures and heard about the movie but had yet to actually watch it. So needless to say I was excited I was finally going to be able to.

My face should’ve been hurting from all the smiling I did as I watched David Howard Thornton bring life to this mute creepy clown on my screen. Disclaimer: I blame my weird obsession with the circus and my love for 80s slasher films. Normal people probably won’t have the same reaction to this film ha ha. After my husband and I watched the movie I could not stop thinking about how badly I loved David’s performance as Art The Clown and wanted to draw him. I had an idea in mind already but I had other art projects and commission pieces to wrap up. But as soon as I had free time I started on the Art piece (pun intended). Pretty ironic too that I finished it in October.

I call it #SELFIE and it was inspired by Art’s 2 fun looks in the movie….

As I was drawing the left side, I kept joking around with the tagline from Maybelline. I kept saying things to myself like “Maybe he’s born with it? Maybe he’s just really good at scalping and skinning crazy homeless woman and then wearing them” ha ha. Yah…I had a lot of fun with this one.

If you’re also a fan of David Howard Thronton as Art The Clown in Damien Leone’s Terrifier then you can pick up prints and shirts in my Etsy and Amazon shops. You can see Art and the rest of my portrait work on the Spitting Image page of my portfolio website.

Spitting Image: Pretty Bitchin’

0

Eleven Stranger Things Season 1I have been wanting to do a portrait of Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven ever since the 1st season of Stranger Things came out. I was completely in awe of her character as well as her mad acting skills. Not to mention who wouldn’t want to draw that beautiful face of hers.

I wasn’t sure how I wanted to do it but I knew I didn’t want to just replicate a still from the show. I wanted my piece to be unique among all the ones I have seen others do so I waited for that creative spark to hit me. Well while binge watching Season 2 my mine went zap! I knew I wanted to do a split face portrait and I wanted to showcase
Eleven’s fun makeovers from both seasons. Her “pretty” makeover from Season 1 and her “bitchin'” makeover from Season 2.

I am excited to announce that I finally finished it between other projects and filling holiday orders. I call this piece “Pretty Bitchin'” which I get a kick out of every time I say it…………
