Remains: Mannequin Transformation Complete!

SHE’S ALIVE! Elsa is finally ready for her first show this weekend. We will be taking her with Frankenhearse and Franky to the Hardcore Hearse Club Munsters Themed Show at Fables Frights to meet Butch Patrick and hang out with the club.

My final step of her transformation was to distress the wedding dress we found for her at the thrift store. I always have a blast distressing clothes and this was no exception. I will admit at one point during the process I did wonder whose dream dress I was destroying as I was taking a box cutter to it and spraying it down with a mixture of water and paints.

Then when it was all said and done I could not help but think I just created a new dream dress for Elsa. I couldn’t help but clap after Frank helped me get it on her and I saw the whole thing come together. I could not be happier with the way it all turned out.

Here is a side by side comparison…

elsatransformation

The 1st photo shows what the mannequin looked like when my mother in law found her for me. The 2nd photo is after I painted her, added my wig and necklace and then tried on the vintage wedding dress we found at the thrift store. The 3rd photo is my final creation after distressing the dress and putting her all back together again!

I may still paint her nails black just for some added girly fun. The great thing is her hands come off so I can do that whenever I feel like it. ha ha.

Remains: Mannequin Transformation Part 1

WP_20160731_11_15_32_ProFrom my past posts you all already know that I have an amazing mother in law. Judy is always thinking of me and always supporting my craft. She is a thrifty shopper with a great eye for stuff that I can use for up-cycling into my latest creepy creations!

She  knew I was on the look out for a female mannequin. My goal was to find one in decent shape and paint it to look like the Bride of Frankenstein.  I had multiple visions on how I planned to use it once I got my hands on one and transformed it….

  • Unique eye attention display for my art show vending table
  • Incorporate it into our Frankenhearse display for car shows and events. With our Frankenstein display already in the back of the hearse (yes that is a real body bag he is in) who better to display in the driver seat.
  • When not on display at shows it would be up in our house with all our other horror movie memorabilia.

Well Judy and some of the family were on a flea market travel expedition and she came across a woman who had a “traveling mate” in her trailer and was willing to sell her. She brought her home and I could not have been more thrilled. Not only was she in excellent condition but she was EXACTLY what I was looking for.

wp_20160809_19_03_28_pro-1

This past weekend I took her apart and got to play Dr. Frankenstein and totally transformed her. She started off looking like this….

Then once I was done with her she came out looking like this………..

Goodbye Barbie! Hello Elsa!

The wig and necklace are actually ones I wore when I dressed as the Bride for Halloween a few years back. As you can see in the background I also painted her arms and legs to match. They look hilarious hanging from the ceiling in our basement. Which I guess is not as crazy as all the mannequin body part pieces that were all over the dining room before I finally got the paints I needed to start this project. My next step is wardrobe for her. I already have ideas for doing it on the cheap that are going to still look spooktacular!

Keep an eye here in my Eulogy (blog) for update posts on this project and many more! I got another one in the works and there will be no more Mr. Nice Guys left when I am done with it! 😉

Chicago Frights!

2

Over the weekend we participated in the annual hearse show at the Chicago Frights Halloween and Haunters convention. It was co-sponsored by our Hardcore Hearse Club so of course everyone had a great time!

Frankenhearse was on display right in the front as soon as you entered the lot!

WP_20160731_11_30_37_Pro

As always, Frankenstein was nice and cozy in his body bag in the back.

WP_20160731_11_15_32_Pro

There were lots of killer rides that showed up for the show.

We went inside and checked out all the vendors. I left with an awesome werewolf necklace from Zukati Creations. We also got a new Frankenskull (whose eyes light up green) from Missing Finger Productions. We are going to display it in Frankenhearse when we do shows and in our house whenever we aren’t. We were sold on it not just because it was a Frankenstein skull and that the eyes lit up green, but because it had a very Mars Attacks feel to it.

We were honored to find out that Frankenhearse took 1ST PLACE HEARSE!! We got another trophy!

WP_20160731_15_33_25_Pro

We immediately put the trophy on display on our shelf at home. It is right next to the other one we got at the last hearse show and our new Frankenskull! As you can see Otis (our pet Axolotl) now has new shiny things to look at from his tank ha ha

WP_20160731_19_46_37_Pro

The great thing about being a part of the club and taking part in all these fun events is all the amazing new people we have gotten to meet. Definitely looking forward to the next meet up!

Hardcore Hearse Club Show 2016

5

Just wanted to share some photos from over the weekend during my 1st vending experience at the Hardcore Hearse Club – Hearses Show. I vended both Saturday and Sunday. It was a good thing I did because the heat was so uncomfortable on Saturday that I felt ill from it and had to shut shop down 2 hours early (show ended at 8pm and I closed down at 6pm). From what I heard I was not the only one. I did pretty well seeing I was there an hour earlier then the other vendors for set up and it was already almost 90 degrees at 10 am when we packed up the car earlier in the morning.

Hearse Show (13)2

I was really happy how well my booth came together and got loads of compliments on it. My husband is such a god sent for helping me set it all up. On top of it taking most of it all down himself when I got sick later on. All day long he made sure I was doing ok, had enough to keep me hydrated, spraying me down with a water bottle and making sure I had a cold rag on my neck at all times. I love that man!

Hearse Show (1)
One of the main reasons I had to be there earlier then the other vendors is because we were also displaying Frankenhearse. Darlene was a doll and reserved us a special area and it worked out perfectly for unloading! We ended up using the back up tarp to block some of the sun and we were actually shaded by some trees with helped a lot. Having the gas station directly behind us for washroom breaks and ice/drink runs was also very convenient! At one point when I was starting to get sick Frank actually took me over there to stand in the beer freezer while Dad and Diane watched over my booth. They came out and bared the heat with us almost all day! Such troopers!

Hearse Show (8)

We made sure to put my new decal on the back of the hearse the night before and were so happy with how it looked.  Wilson Graphics never disappoints!

Hearse Show (15)

Despite the heat there were a lot of people there. I was surprised because of the heat but not surprised since this particular hearse show never disappoints and is one not to miss. Lots of hearses, lots of spectators, a decent amount of vendors and the entertainment went on as planned. Unfortunately due to the heat I spent most of the day on Saturday under my shaded canopy with cold rags on my neck and trying to stay hydrated (due to my health issues I have to be very cautious of it). So I ended up missing a lot of stuff going on that day and a few things that evening when we left early but it was better safe than sorry. I was mostly disappointed that I missed my friend, Ron Fitzgerald‘s Illusion act. I was just grateful that the hotel we were staying at was right across the street. When Frank went over there earlier in the day to check us in he cranked the A/C so it had been running in our room all day! That, a cold shower and getting a decent meal in me made me feel so much better!

One of the other awesome things about this show is they never disappoint when it comes to their huge raffle baskets! This year I donated my Tim Burton Framed/Decorated Print and Jack Skellington Dead Girl Decay Barrette! They put it amongst some other really cool items!

Hearse Show Donation Basket (1)

Sunday was so much more comfortable weather wise. The only issue we had was with the breeze which we used tarps to take care of the sides of the canopy and we were all good. I also laid my framed portrait prints down and rearranged my set up to accommodate for it. I refilled any gaps from sold items with back up items I had packed away.

Hearse Show (11)

We got the same spot both days. Also this shot shows Frank’s RC Traxxas Hearse that he parked near Frankenhearse. When it was not parked he was driving it around the show with my business card on the hood! Did I mention I how much I love that man!

Hearse Show (18)

We were also pleasantly surprised to find out that after we had left early the night before, that Frankenhearse had won a prize. We were voted 2nd place hearse for best of show!! Such an honor with so many amazing rides there! Here we are proudly holding our trophy!

Hearse Show (7)

With the weather being nicer a lot more of our friends and family were able to come out on Sunday as well. Dad and Diane were there with us all morning and then others arrived later in the day. It meant a lot to me to have everyones support at my first vending event. My sister in law, Melissa captured this adorable photo of my great niece, Violet who showed up rocking an Aunt Nicole original in her hair!

Hearse Show (2)

Our friend Cathy captured this great shot of Frank and I in my booth as well..

Hearse Show (10)

The best part about vending was all the awesome new people I got to meet that paid my table a visit! Some made purchases, some networked for future events and tons of people took my card to check out the rest of my work online. I am really looking forward to working with some of them in the future. If any of you are reading this… THANK YOU!

Below is a shot that the club received that includes a little girl who insisted her Dad buy my Zombified Clown Mask. I could not be happier that it went to her. She loved it and was spotted wearing it at the show! The 2nd is a shot I took of my very first vending customer! She purchased a Dead Girl Decay Skull pin to match her awesome Cheshire Cat tank! I did not get photos of each of my customers which I am now kicking myself in the ass for. However these 2 pics sum up the range of how great the customers were!

On Sunday since it was much better weather wise I ventured out of my booth and Frank and I decided to get some more Hearse Club gear. But we also got some really killer new things for the house while supporting the other vendors. We got a Frankenstein blanket for our living room and some Frankenstein themed glasses to display on the shelf in our kitchen.

All in all we were exhausted and it was a lot of work preparing for for my first show. The heat wave put a damper on things but I am still very happy that I chose to wait to vend my first show until now. So many have asked me to do it and it meant a lot that my first show was also an opportunity to support our awesome club!

Keep an eye on my Etsy shop for new items! I had made some things to stock up for the show. Some of these items are still available and will be added soon. If you were at the show and want to know if something you saw on my table is still available, feel free to contact me directly! As always I am always available for custom orders as well!

Remains: Vending Is Hard Work!

1

So I haven’t posted much more about preparing for my 1st vending event because I have been super busy preparing for it. Ever since we have been back from our Philly vacation, every weekend has been dedicated someway, somehow to preparing for the show. With working a full time job the weekends are my best time to dedicate to all of this. I have been making new limited edition products (that will only be available at the show), up-cycling things for my display, shopping both in store and online with my mad budgeting/deal finding skills, researching helpful blogs for 1st timers and brainstorming (with mad lists) of what I need to make this all happen. I actually had to make myself take a break from it all to do my “We All Have Our Flaws Kitten” Denis O’Hare portrait. With him being added to the con with only a month to go I had to stop the presses and make it happen! Because well I love him and priorities ha ha.

So much has been made and so much is going on but I wanted to highlight some fun things worth sharing. So first of all my mother in law, Judy has been enjoying retirement with lots of flea market shopping and bless her soul that woman is always thinking of me. She has been finding so many amazing things for me to use and things are really coming together quite well

For instance.. here you will see a before and after shot of a ornate, framed coin display that she picked up for only $3.00 (and she picked me up 3 of them!! Score!). All I had to tell her was ornate frames that I could up-cycle and she was on it!  The one on the right is after my husband and I completely transformed it into a purple and black gothic display for my Dead Girl Decay Barrettes. Much more my style and matches my overall brand identity.

6tag_240416-112249
For some additional brand identity I made mention of dying our old ivory colored bat shower curtain purple. She had some free time and actually dyed it for me. Now it matches the look of my portfolio website! This will most likely get draped over my table.

WP_20160418_11_24_17_Pro

So I had a vision of what I wanted to do for my Custom Order Forms. I wanted a tombstone display that would sit on my table. I wanted it to hold the order forms and atleast 1 pen. I also wanted it to say HERE LIES CUSTOM ORDER FORMS. So I did a search on Etsy to see if I could find someone who could make an affordable base for me. I would then of course be able to paint and decorate it myself.  That is when I found Woodloom on Etsy. I told her about my unique display idea and she was thrilled to make it for me. On top of it she was a delight to work with and also went away with one of my Dead Girl Massacre Decay Barrettes. She plans to wear it with her costume at the Haunted House she helps run during the Halloween season!

Here is the end result…….

tombstonebeforeafter

So there you have some fun highlights of my vending preparations so far. To top it off this past weekend we let the beast out of winter storage! Frankenhearse is ALIVE and on the streets again!
