Dead Girl Decay : Pop Culture Icon Barrettes

0

I really enjoy going treasure hunting with my husband at flea markets, garage sales, antiques stores and collectible shops etc. This little hobby of ours is actually how I ended up being so blessed to have the owner of Closet Collectibles ask me to put my art up on display in his store.

Whenever we go out I look for things I can resurrect aka upcycle into art. Lately I have been looking to make some new Pop Culture inspired Dead Girl Decay barrettes and I succeeded to make 4 new ones!

I call them “I’ll Be In My Room”, “Moi”, “There Is No Try” and “I Am Vengeance”….

Like all my Limited Edition pre-made creations there is only 1 of each of these because I like everything to be one-of-a-kind. I personally am drawn to what is unique (pun intended) and try to give that back to others with my creations. It is why when I am looking for something in particular or want something different I do so by supporting other artists or small businesses. Who wants the same thing everyone else has at the store when they can have something unique that no one else has and is handmade with the hands, heart and soul of an artist. Especially when they are passionate about the subject matter.

These 4 barrettes here are now available for purchase in my online Etsy shop and will soon be available to purchase at Closet Collectibles in Crete IL. to give people the option to purchase them in person. So once they are gone they are gone.

Be sure to check out some of the other accessories I have made in the Dead Girl Decay section of my official portfolio website. Many of the themed and pop culture ones you see on my site were actually commissioned by clients as custom orders. So if you are looking for something in particular let’s talk!

What pop culture icons do you want to see me make into Dead Girl Decay wearable art next? Leave me a comment and I may just “make” that happen (pun intended.. yet again).

Drippings: Harley Quinn For Ava

2

Saturday was my goddaughter Ava’s very first gymnastics recital. In lieu of traditional flowers or stuffed animals I decided to put my artistic abilities to good use. Besides, Aunt Nicole is far from traditional anyways. 🙂 Seeing she is a big Harley Quinn fan (she even dressed up like the DC Super Hero Girls version of her this past Halloween) and often mentions the fact that she is a gymnast too, I used that for my inspiration. Seeing how passionate Ava is about this I decided to paint her a little Harley Quinn of her own. I even added some magical “super power” glitter to the blue and red streaks in her hair!

Now typically you would give them their gifts after the recital. However as soon as she saw me holding a gift bag she started to ask questions ha ha. Then when I told her I made her something she got so excited I couldn’t hold off any more and let her open it. I made sure to tell her I made it because I am so proud of her!

When she opened it she said “HARLEY QUINN!!! HOW DO YOU DO THIS!!” and was all smiles! Totally made my day to see how much she loved it. Then she read the little note I put on the back “Ava… Follow Your Dreams. Love Aunt Nicole”

On top of it she did an amazing job at her recital. Girl was on stage doing tumbling and one arm cartwheels without hesitation. So proud of her!
