Back Bone: Furry Friends

0

My inner Deet gelfling essence has been in full swing lately! For those of you who are not Jim Henson geeks, stay tuned for a future post that will help make sense of what I just said and in the mean time just keep reading on…

Well, I am back at it again. I have donated another one of my handmade creations to a wonderful cause. This one being another online Instagram charity auction. This time I am re-joining forces with The Wishmasters Project to help raise money for Adelaide & Hills Koala Rescue who are doing wonderful things to help save the koalas from the bush fires in Australia.

The item I have donated is one of my limited edition Batty Skelerfly Barrettes with a starting bid of only $5.00!

Right now window shopping has begun on the Wishmasters Instagram page. This means that all the items that have been donated by artists and vendors are being posted to give people the chance to like and share them before the actual bidding opens THIS Friday, February 7th at 9pm EST..

Once the auction goes live you can then go to my item (and any of the other items) posted on their Instagram posts and bid (in $1 increments)! 100% of the proceeds from every item in this auction will be donated to the koala rescue. That is right. All of the artists and vendors who donated their items will not be making any profit from their items and creations so that we can raise the biggest amount possible for the cause.

So come join forces with us! Not only can you help by bidding on the items on Friday you can also help by bringing awareness to the auction. Go like the item posts, share the posts and even share this blog post with your connections and followers! Let’s save our furry little koala friends!

Now speaking of furry friends! A couple of weekends ago I got to enjoy a wonderful day date with my husband. We attended Wild Fest where we got to get up close and personal with some amazing animals rescued by various sanctuaries. I even got to pet quite a few of them. Here are a few photos from the event….

Since then I purchased an Incredible Bats shirt to help raise awareness for them. I am happy to know that the money I paid for the shirt will now go to some of those adorable new furry friends I made.

Back Bone: The Wishmasters Project – Making Mobility for Grimm Artwork

4

CaptureI have joined up with The Wishmasters Project for this week’s upcoming auction. They do auction-style fundraising on Instagram to help raise money for those in need. As someone who has had their own fair share of medical financial hardships, I know how hard it can be. That is why I am always trying to find ways I can use my art to give back the way others had helped me.

The current auction is to help Jessica Gimareli of GrimmArtworksDesigns who was in a terrible car accident with multiple life-threatening injuries. She is now wheelchair bound with permanent nerve damage and suffers from chronic pain. She is in need of a vehicle with a special accessible foot pedal device to assist her with driving. The goal of this auction is to help Jessica become mobile again.

The item I have donated is a 2 piece Chucky & Tiff Portrait Print Set. Winner of the auction will receive both a Friends Til The End print and a Barbie Eat Your Heart Out Print. Both will be 8.5″ x 11″ in size.

Freaky Fanatic: S.O.P.H.I.E Supporter LeAnne

I apologize for being M.I.A, I have been working on a very large commission painting and trying to get it done by it’s deadline. It’s consuming my every free minute. However as soon as I received these photos I knew I had to stop for a while and share them.

LeAnne reached out to me after I announced the creation of my S.O.P.H.I.E Lancaster Foundation barrettes. She asked me to hold one of them for her before they sold out. See she was not only a supporter of the foundation but also a close personal friend of Sophie’s. On top of it she was getting married in a few weeks and wanted to wear it so Sophie could be a part of her big day.

“Thank you again so much for saving me one it meant the world to me to be able to wear it for my big day” – LeAnne

Doesn’t the barrette match perfectly with her flowers and their accessories?!

Congratulations LeAnne you look beautiful. I am honored that something I created could bring you closer to your departed friend. Especially on such a very meaningful occasion.

Back Bone: Barrettes for Sophie

4

Collect-picture-of-Sophie-LancasterAs mentioned in my previous post, I reached out to one of my favorite foundations to team up with them. With this week being the 10 year anniversary of Sophie Lancaster’s death, I wanted to do something that will not only give back but continue to help bring awareness to such an important cause. A cause some people in the US might not even be aware of and should actually be something we should be fighting for as well!

I have made 5 limited edition Dead Girl Decay barrettes where 50% of the proceeds earned will be donated to The Sophie Lancaster Foundation. Even though they look similar they are handmade which means no 2 are exactly alike. Unique, just like Sophie!

Sophie Group Barrettes

“Sophie was a thoughtful, sensitive individual and she would not have wanted her death to have been in vain.” – Sylvia Lancaster

In the center of each flower is a rose cameo accented in red glitter to represent Sophie’s thoughtful and sensitive spirit. The black and red rose petals and feathers are symbolic of Sophie’s gothic and artistic style as well as symbolic to the foundation colors. Each barrette has a small iridescent glitter tear drop on one of it’s petals. This is to represent the loss that is felt from Sophie’s death. The loss of a person whose life was taken from her by thoughtless, close minded people. All because she was a beautiful, unique individual.

Sophie Single Barrette

These limited edition pieces are now available in the Back Bone Section of my Etsy shop. The special section reserved specifically for selling items I make to help the causes I believe in. Don’t wear barrettes? Then clip it up in your home, car or anywhere! Show your support anyway you choose! Buy one for a friend who like Sophie lives an alternative lifestyle! Let’s stop the hate that makes people scared to be themselves!

About The Sophie Lancaster Foundation and why your purchase can help:

“WEIRDO – MOSHER – FREAK, If only they’d stop at name calling” is something I have been wearing on a shirt I bought from the foundation for many years now. It is the motto of the foundation and a very strong one at that.

Following the horrific murder of Sophie Lancaster, her family wanted to ensure a lasting legacy to their beautiful, bright creative daughter and so The Sophie Lancaster FoundationThe Sophie Lancaster Foundation was established. It became a registered charity in 2009. The foundation aims to create a lasting legacy to Sophie by providing educational group-works that will challenge the prejudice and intolerance towards people from alternative subcultures.
