Saturday was my goddaughter Ava’s very first gymnastics recital. In lieu of traditional flowers or stuffed animals I decided to put my artistic abilities to good use. Besides, Aunt Nicole is far from traditional anyways. 🙂 Seeing she is a big Harley Quinn fan (she even dressed up like the DC Super Hero Girls version of her this past Halloween) and often mentions the fact that she is a gymnast too, I used that for my inspiration. Seeing how passionate Ava is about this I decided to paint her a little Harley Quinn of her own. I even added some magical “super power” glitter to the blue and red streaks in her hair!
Now typically you would give them their gifts after the recital. However as soon as she saw me holding a gift bag she started to ask questions ha ha. Then when I told her I made her something she got so excited I couldn’t hold off any more and let her open it. I made sure to tell her I made it because I am so proud of her!
When she opened it she said “HARLEY QUINN!!! HOW DO YOU DO THIS!!” and was all smiles! Totally made my day to see how much she loved it. Then she read the little note I put on the back “Ava… Follow Your Dreams. Love Aunt Nicole”
On top of it she did an amazing job at her recital. Girl was on stage doing tumbling and one arm cartwheels without hesitation. So proud of her!

If you look at my Freaky Fanatic Slideshow you can actually see my god daughter Ava growing up through out all the photos ha ha. Needless to say since she was 1 she has rocked numerous Aunt Nicole “fairy goth mother” creations. This year she turned 7 and her mom/my best friend Regina got her a grey and lavender butterfly dress for her to wear. She was so excited about the dress that I couldn’t help but make her a matching barrette for her special day. She is also at that fun age where she likes to play dress up so when she saw it she immediately wanted to wear it. She loved it along with the Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy dolls we got her. Here are a few photos from her special day.

As you all know I recently posted about how I made a Kitty Cheshire headpiece for my goddaughter Ava. She needed it to complete her Halloween costume because she didn’t want to just wear cat ears. She had to have a hat that was just like hers. Ever since I gave it to her Dad I have been anticipating how she liked it and if it worked. Then I got this picture texted to me over the weekend and it made my heart smile. So happy to be a part of making her Halloween memorable.
See Ava and many other happy customer photos on my Freaky Fanatics page of my website! Have a photo of yourself rocking something I made? Have something I made displayed? Send in your photos and you can be featured here on my blog as well as my website! Show the world how you support the arts!
So I got commissioned for a special job 🙂 My goddaughter Ava wants to be Kitty Cheshire from Ever After High for Halloween.
She has the costume but not the headpiece/hat/headband. She goes to Halloween stores and keeps reminding her Dad that she still needs her hat. Well anything he shows her of course is “not HER hat” ha ha. So that is where Aunt Nicole’s magic comes in!
Just finished it last night. It’s a bit of a combo between the cartoon and doll versions all rolled into one. That away no matter what version people think of her…it’s still “HER hat” ha ha. Instead of hard plastic (like the store bought one would have been) I made it out of a fun textured black felt that will be nice and soft on her head and much more “kitty” like. The ears are made from wired black fun fur. The headband was already covered in black fun fur as it was from a set of cat ears her Dad purchased at the store as a back up plan. It’s hard to see from the photo but the inside of the ears are made from glittery iridescent white foam sheets. The whiskers match by being made of iridescent sparkly pipe cleaners. The lighter lavender paint on the cheshire grin actually glows in the dark 🙂

I received this picture from my best friend Regina. Apparently my god daughter, Ava Nicole was quite excited to get our Christmas card in the mail 🙂 How can this not make you smile!
My god daughter Ava Nicole turns 4 on November 6th! Her Mom had her 1st of two birthday parties this weekend. It was a Monster High themed party and since Ava was Abbey for Halloween I decided to make her a very special Abbey inspired Dead Girl Decay Barrette.
We also got her the Monster High doll that you can “draw” on! See Ava shares a very special thing with her god mother… when I was little I use to use my markers to make Barbie look more fun. You know give her designs on their face and arms, special fun makeup and make her hair all sorts of fun colors. That was until Jem and the Holograms came out and my prayers were answered. Well in Ava’s case her Mom found her in her bedroom with the same fun habits which I find incredibly awesome and hilarious at the same time. Ava now really loves the Monster High dolls and well I can admit I am a tad bit jealous they were not around when I was a kid ha ha.
Here she is opening the doll. As soon as I told her you could draw on her she immediately wanted to get her out of the box ha ha
and last but not least my cupcake eating a cupcake with me : ) and posing for a picture…
