Love, Anchors & Ink

My cousin Tammy commissioned me to draw up her first tattoo!
A beautiful tribute to her husband Scott… the love of her life.. her anchor 🙂
The goal was to incorporate his initials  SML hidden in the tattoo
Here is the completed sketch for her to bring to the shop to show them the concept she wanted..

She was not sure on what color scheme she wanted so I left it black and grey scale for her to decide when she got it
And here is the awesome finished tattoo right after she got it…

Helllloooo Sailor!

Last year our close friends Mike and Janet got married and I posted about the barrette I made and wore on their special day. They had a beach themed wedding and I wore a sailor girl dress so I made an anchor barrette to go with it.
Living Dead Girl Nicole with friends Janet & Rasha on Janet’s big day!

Now whenever I wear that barrette I notice that I get a lot of compliments on it. Lucky for all of you out there that like the barrette….. I have more anchors (in both white and black) and decided to make some anchor, tattoo, polka dot, sailor girl barrettes for the Dead Girl Inked Decay section of my Etsy Shop.

Art Heals

I turn 31 this Sunday Feb 12th (same birthday as the lovely Christina Ricci – who I have drawn cause I adore her. You can see it HERE) and I started my celebrating last night with a new tattoo (yes I still have room for more ha ha). This tattoo is very symbolic for me and I had fun coming up with the concept for it. My tattoo artist Ken Culver was the one that brought it to life for me.

This tattoo represents how art has always been my release, my escape from the real world, my passion and my savior. Even as a child, art is what got me through so many of the fast, curve balls life threw my direction.  Art not only got me through a lot of pain but it also kept me passionate and made me feel I was worth something. I am blessed to have been given a talent that has a healing type of power that comes along with it. I really feel it is what has kept me sane (well depending on how you define sane. He He). I am very happy to have gotten this tattoo as I venture into saying “in my 30’s”. It’s a reminder of where I have come from, who I am and what has helped me get here. It is a reminder that when life gives you lemons…. color them!

Well in tribute of the LA Ink season finale I figured I would feature this portrait I drew of Kat Von D a few years back!! I have always admired Kat for her unique style and awesome down to earth fun personality. I think she is beyond stunning and a great example of how you can be a beautiful woman even if you are covered in the edginess of tattoos. And well as we all know that is right up my alley since I myself am heavily tattoo’d.

Back when I drew this Kat use to have an email address posted on her site and I emailed the picture to her and this was the response she sent me.

From: Kat Von D

Hey Nicole,Thank you so much for the rad fanart. I love it!
xoxo
Kat Von D

I remember the day I opened my email and my jaw dropped.. because I remember an episode of LA Ink back in the day where she was trying to make time in her schedule to answer her fan email so I knew it was a response from her. Now of course she uses Twitter to stay in touch with fans. But the awesome thing about it is that she makes the time for her fans!!

Do you also admire Mrs Kat Von D? Want a print of this portrait I did of her?? Well your in luck because prints are available in my Etsy shop HERE!!!

And are you like Kat and love wearing gold???
Check out my golden Webbed decay hair barrette for sale HERE as well!!
