Well it’s been quite some time since I updated about my Desktop Publishing and Design schooling. Everything was put on hold when I went into the hospital. The good thing though as seen in my posts is that I am already using what I am learning and applying my skills as seen in the ads and event fliers I did for Immortality Entertainment, the band Axe Man’s Bridge and now what I am working on for the South Suburban Food Co-op. Since I don’t have alot of energy to be very active I thought it would be a good time to read the next chapter of my studies and I just submitted my first Indesign project for grading. It’s a project you have to follow step by step from your lesson guide as you learn the different parts of the program. You have to use specific sizes, margins, put photos and fonts in specific places etc. It’s not a free for all project but a very detailed one based on their precise requirements. The project you create as you read and follow along is submitted to the instructor to review and grade. Now I wait to see how I did. I was able to slowly do this from my couch taking breaks in between so I hope I did ok. I just can’t fall too behind or I will be super stressed playing catch up between school and work. It’s a risk I have to take submitting it when I am not 100% myself so we will see.
In the mean time I am still on medical leave recovering from my 2 surgeries and complications. I am still taking donations to help make ends meet at www.gofundme.com/nicolen. At this time I am not working and my medical leave is unpaid so every penny counts! If you can’t afford to donate please post and share the link with others!
It appears House of 1000 Corpses will be on IFC tonight.. I know what I will be doing the rest of the night.
Stay Spooky, Smart & Healthy!
Reasons my creepy little heart is smiling today…
1.) was released from the hospital last night
2.) got to sleep in my own bed
3.) got to come home to my cats who I missed terribly
4.) no more iv’s, ng tubes and surgery tables
5.) Seeing a new referral on LinkedIn for me from Cleve Hall 🙂
Recovery is starting new for me. My diet is not getting set back but as far as being able to work, lift things and do ordinary things I am starting over. I am re-opening my Etsy shop for pre-made items as we are able to get those packed up and shipped out. However any custom/made to order items are still on hold until further notice
This post is to inform everyone that Living Dead Girl Nicole is back in the hospital. As most of you have read on this news blog she had surgery at Rochester Methodist Hospital on January 18th and experienced complications. She was released on February 5th and finally returned home to IL on February 9th. On Tuesday February 26th she went to ER and was readmitted into a local hospital. Because of this her Etsy shop is temporarily closed and all custom/made to order items (including One Eyed Doll Merch and art prints) are temporarily on hold as well.
For more info about her surgery and/or to make a monetary donation please visit http://www.gofundme.com/nicolen. Nicole is on unpaid medical leave and now does not have the added income from the sale of her artwork so please spread the word by sharing this link with others. Every dollar and every bit of help counts!!
As all of you know I do handmade merch for the band One Eyed Doll. I forgot to mention in my previous posts that my merch is currently on hold with them until I am recovered from surgery. These items I make for them fall under the “custom made to order” items that I am unable to make at this time. Once I am fully recovered you will see my merch back up for sale in their shop and available for purchase.

My Etsy Shop is officially on “vacation mode” as of today. If you go to my Etsy Shop you will see the following message…….
The owner of LivingDeadGirlNicole is on vacation.
Artist Living Dead Girl Nicole is currently on medical leave!!!
I will be having surgery that will be taking place out of town at the Rochester Methodist Hospital (a part of the Mayo Clinic) on January 18th. I will be out of town and starting my medical leave as of January 16th.
Due to this I have put all custom/made to order items and commission requests on hold for the time being.
My Etsy shop will be on vacation mode starting January 11th as I will not be able to ship pre- made items in my shop as of that date. It will reopen around February 1st and my husband will be helping me ship out already made item orders until I am fully recovered. We are reopening the shop while I am still on medical leave because the money from the sales of my shop and art will be my only contribution to our household income during my leave from my full time job.
I appreciate your time and patience during this matter and will be in contact with anyone that reaches out to me as soon as I am able to.
For more info about my surgery and/or to make a monetary donation please visit http://www.gofundme.com/nicolen. Please also feel free to spread the word by sharing the link with others! Every bit of help counts!!
ALSO…..parabellum (my husband’s band) now has their own Reverbnation page!! So make sure you check them out! The page is new so they don’t have a lot on there right now but I actually went to their last practice and did some photos of their instruments and of them rocking out so there is alot more to come!! Make sure you become a fan and spread the word!!
I just added the following announcment to the front page of my Etsy Shop. This also goes for commission orders that I get through this news blog as well as my website contact page.
**IMPORTANT – I will be having surgery out of town at the Mayo Clinic on January 18th. Because of this I have put all custom/made to order items and commission requests on hold for the time being. My Shop will be on vacation mode starting January 11th as I will not be able to ship already made items in my shop after that date. It will reopen on February 1st and my husband will be helping me ship out already made item orders until I am fully recovered. We are reopening the shop as the money from the sales of my shop and art have been helping me pay what I call my “Dr. Frankenstein fund” or AKA medical expenses. I appreciate your time and your patience during this time. For more info about my surgery visit http://www.gofundme.com/nicolen and please spread the word! Every donation counts!!!**
For those of you who have asked I wanted to post this diagram to give you a better idea of the surgery I am having on the 18th. As an artist I prefer visual explanations because I am a visual learner. For those of you who have also asked why I am having surgery check out this article which will give you a very informative perspective of what I am suffering with. I also hope that as you read it if you feel you are suffering with the same that you see a doctor. It might not “just be IBS” and might be something that you need to have fixed before it gets worse. I have suffered so many years with this trying to find out what is wrong that my large intestine is now also stretched out.. it is now considered “tortuous and redundent” which makes my condition worse. I have no shame in talking about any of this and would be happy to answer anyones questions. It is sometimes hard to talk about these types of issues and many suffer in silence. I also highly recommend the AGMD Motility Support Community which I am highly active as user NG1031. This group has helped me get answers, find my miracle doctor and finally get on the right track to where I am now.
I also would like to thank everyone again for the generous donations and support at my www.gofundme.com/nicolen site. Not only have the donations been amazing but so has all the support of everyone who has reposted or have spread the word about my page. I truly appreciate it!
