Art.. the perfect gift…

2
Well I needed to wait until after Xmas to post this so it didn’t ruin gift related surprises.
My cousin Kevin contacted me earlier this month to commission me to draw a portrait of his mother in law that had passed. He wanted me to draw it so he could give it to his wife Lisa for Christmas.
This is the finished portrait…
I got a lovely message from Lisa after she received it..
“Nicole I can’t tell you how awesome you are and how much I appreciate the picture. You captured my Mom’s spirit and I love it!”
I love when I get feed back from memorial portraits like this. It keeps me inspired to continue doing what I love by seeing how my work effects others and makes their lives a little brighter in a time of lose.
I also had fun making Christmas Spider Ornaments this year for my immediate family and close family friends.
I am sure you can tell from my Muppet obsession why I chose these googly eyes! Are they not the cutest?!
My best friend Regina purchased some of my Dead Girl Decay Barrettes to give as gifts. Here is a picture of her daughter Mia rocking the Halloween inspired Dead Girl Decay she gave to her.
I love that my art can bring Halloween out in others even during the Xmas season ha ha.
And this is not art related but definitely horror move and Xmas related so I had to share. This is a photo of the awesome Xmas cards me and my husband sent out this year. The photo is of me and my husband Frank with Sid Haig in his complete clown makeup from one of the conventions we went to this year. As you all know Sid is one of our faves.. not only as an actor but as a friend.
The cards said “Fried Chicken and Gasoline Love from The Garcia’s”
Hope everyone had a rocking Xmas! Now on to celebrate the new year.. 2012… the last year on earth. Everyone ready for the zombie apocalypse or what?

A Memorable Horror Con Weekend

10
Well me and my husband Frank went to another horror con this weekend. A BIG thank you and shout out to  my Dad who paid for our hotel room and our tickets for our 30th birthdays (back in Feb) this was one con that as extremely memorable.
This was another con where I came bearing gifts 🙂
First I gave a custom barrette to Scout Taylor Compton who seemed to really love it. She told me she has a photo shoot coming up and she wants to wear it for it! She even said she would send me pictures once the photo shoot is done and she has them. Fingers crossed! She was a complete doll in person.
Barrette I made and gave to Scout Taylor Compton
Frank, Scout and Me!
I also brought my Robert Englund/Freddy Krueger Sweet Dreams original portrait and had the honor of giving it to Robert Englund himself! I also was able to have him sign a print to keep for my portfolio. When I saw him at first it was for a Freddy Krueger Boiler room photo op. I told him “I made this for you and would love to have it in our picture!” He told me he thought the portrait was great! And that it definitely should be in the picture. When we were done taking the picture I asked him if he wanted me to walk it over to his wife for safe keeping he said “wait what.. this is a gift???.. for me??? Wow!! Thank you!!”
He couldn’t believe I was giving him the original and him being in awe of that made all the hard work of drawing it that much more meaningful to me.
Me giving Robert the portrait!! EEK!

My signed print for my portfolio!
On top of all that excitement I was super excited that Sid Haig was appearing at this con. All of you know I have nothing but mad LOVE LOVE LOVE for Sid 🙂 and every chance I get to see him I make it a priority ha ha. When I saw his line had started to die down a little I made it a point to go over to talk to him and catch up on things. He asked me if I started my new job yet and we BS’d for a little while until his line started to get backed up ha ha. I snuck back behind his table for our traditional Sid & Nicole pic before the line got too bad ha ha.
Sid & Me!
On top of that.. they were doing a photo op at the con complete in Sid’s Captain Spaulding makeup so I made sure to save my pennies so me and Frank could do it! When I walked into the room where the pics were be taken and I walked up to him I was like “OMG How freaking awesome it is to see you in full make up and costume!!GAAAHH! and he started to laugh. I had to take my glasses off cause they did something with the green screen and reflection.
This is a scanned copy of the 11×14 print we got at the con.. In about a week I will have a jpg copy of the image that I can post that will be WAY clearer.
Spaulding!! YAY!!
On top of all this awesomeness.. we had the honor of also meeting Malcolm McDowell and Lance Hendrickson…
Malcolm McDowell and me! DROOG!

Sid Haig holding up the Spaulding print I gave to him!
As promised I have decided to reminisce some more on some older art pieces I have done.. this time my blog inspiration is coming from this photo of the amazing Mr. Sid Haig which I have framed in my home.

Sid sent me this photo for my “Happy Customer” Page when I had my art website. When I opened my email from my dear friend Suzie (AKA Sid’s wife/other half) my heart skipped a beat when I saw it. It was just another reminder of how great he truly is to his fans.

The original portrait had been mailed in to “Rob Zombie” from a post there was on his website. They were looking for fan art for a Devil’s Rejects/House of 1000 Corpses fan art book that was suppose to be created. I immediately wanted to draw Sid Haig as Captain Spaulding. I fell in love with him and his character the minute he showed up on the screen. Me and my husband had met Sid at a convention and truly enjoyed his company and thought he was such an awesome funny down to earth guy and I really admired him even more after I had met him.

The 1st time I met Sid in 204 – my ShitTheBed Murder Ride User Name was born HA HA!

I will never forget when he asked me what I wanted my autograph to say and he looked up at me and smiled when I said “SHIT THE BED!!” ha ha. So when it came down to it I wanted to draw Sid for my submission.

I did it with pencil, prisma colors, charcoal and pastels..

Seeing Sid again – he was so sick 😦 that day but still
there rocking it for his fans and shouting SHIT THE BED to me across the con with Suzie! 🙂
Because I mailed in the original (like the post had requested) I never saw it again. And sad to say I never heard anything else about a fan art book being released. Luckily I did make 2 prints of it and took a photograph of it. One print I wanted to have Sid sign that I would keep for myself and one to give to Sid one day for being my inspiration. I remember the day I gave it to him. He was at a con and he was sick and I felt so bad for him. But he was being a trooper for us fans!! Him and Suzie yelled “SHIT THE BED!” when they saw me standing in line. He made sure to roll the print up nicely so that it didn’t get ruined and signed my print “You Got A Lot of Spirit!!” (At the time I was featured on his website as a Chicken Shack Cheerleader )

I also drew Sid and Suzie a portrait when they got married.. because I was so happy for them! They are such a rocking couple that they inspired me to bust out the pencils once again.
Sid & Suzie – the portrait I drew of them for the wedding present!
They truely have always been so awesome to me and everyone around them. You could not ask for a more down to earth couple who really appreciate the fans!!

As I have experienced more and more of Sid’s acting work in other movies I have become an even bigger fan and have been doing what I can to return the favor of how generous he was to me by spreading the word about how wonderful he is. Not only cause he is amazing on the big screen but because he truly is amazing in person as well!! Me and my husband Frank have since had many memorable moments we have shared with Sid and his wife Suzie. Including even being able to celebrate and bring him his birthday cake and cookies one year!!
